Happy Mother's Day to ME!!!!!!!

I really thought I was going to get shafted again this year. However my husband came through & got me the iPod I've been wanting for YEARS!!! He bought me one years ago for our anniversary but I had to return it when my dog hurt her leg & had a huge vet bill to pay. I received a very wonderful 80gig Video iPod to put my huge CD collection on plus some Star Trek episodes...LOL.

Now I have to make good on Father's day...

Job safe...what now?

Well, found out that I'm safe with my job, but my two best friends were not. Their last day on the job is next Friday. The peoople I work with are taking them out to Olive Garden on Friday. My friends seem positive about it & we are lucky that our company provides an excellent severance package, but it will be lonely for me.

Funny thing is that our workload is going up with the deletion of 3 people, including any cross-trainers that we have. How ironic is that? So, I hope I don't lose my sanity.

I've been working 70 hours a week for the past 3 weeks, so I am looking forward to a vacation the first week of April.

Me?...unemployed???

Found out last week that our company is down-sizing. The reality is really setting in now that everyone I work with is wondering if they will be the one offered a package. I am 7 weeks short of my 10 year anniversary with the company. I'm trying not to be concerned, but it's hard not to think about it. I can't help but have this overwhelming feeling of being screwed out of my tenure with the company...

Oh well, c'est le vie! I'll possibly know something by Friday.

Prince of Tennis: Ending Theme 2 (Keep Your Style)

PoT Ending 2 - Keep Your Style

Added Prince of Tennis Endings (ED) songs

Cartoon Network/Viz have edited the original music from the opening/ending credits of Prince of Tennis. Since most anime fans are sticklers for not having edits in their anime, I am assuming the edits were due to licensing rights of the OP/ED songs. From what I've read, it can be very expensive to license the songs because they have to negotiate with the artists who recorded them -- the show & the songs are rarely a package deal.

So, I am linking the music with video on my blog. Since I haven't seen the OP/EDs on the actual DVDs, I'm hoping the OP/EDs are intact -- at least on the DVDs.

Added Prince of Tennis & Hikaru no Go to Anime List

I love watching anime & I have decided to add a couple of shows to my favorite anime list, Prince of Tennis (PoT) and Hikaru no Go (Hikago). I actually have already seen these series in the original Japanese, fansubbed, but I am enjoying them on my big screen at home. Even though I always prefer Japanese over the English dub, I will watch either. I'm not as picky about it as I was a few years ago.

Prince of Tennis is a shounen anime (anime that is specifically geared toward boys) that concentrates on a team of tennis players for the Seigaku School. I believe it is a middle school, but the Japanese school system is a little different, so I'm not sure. The main character is a tennis prodigy by the name of Echizen Ryoma (Ryoma being his given name since the surname is always first in Japanese). His father was as much of a prodigy as the son, so Ryoma continues to hone his talents by competing with his father.

What I find interesting about this show is that Ryoma isn't playing tennis because he *loves* it. His main motivation is to finally beat his father. He never expresses that verbally, but it is implied early on in the series. Of course, you can't help but notice that he enjoys his gift & will challenge anyone who thinks they are better than him.

The other characters each have their unique personality types that you can't help but love. The mysteriousness of the team captain, Tezuka, is what originally had me watching because I needed to know what secret he was keeping. However the other characters are equally entertaining & create a wonderful dynamic in order not to make a tennis show not too boring. It is a long series with over 150 episodes, so I am looking forward to watching all of it on DVD over the next few months/years.

Hikaru no Go is another shounen anime that features a boy names Hikaru that encounters a spirit in his grandfather's old Go board. Go is a board game, much along the same lines of chess in its complexity, but don't think the games are too similar. Go features small round game pieces that you strategically place on a gridded gameboard with the objective of capturing your opponents pieces. I bought a smaller version on eBay when I first started to watch the series, but I became too overwhelmed to learn more.

Hikago focuses on young Hikaru & his relationship with this spirit, Sai. Sai was a Go instructor centuries earlier for a Japanese royal court. He was disgraced when another Go instructor challenged him to a game & accused him of cheating, when in fact the challenger was the one who had framed Sai. Sai was so despondent over the shame that he committed suicide by drowning himself. Sai's spirit did live on because of his love for Go & his desire to play "God's Hand", the ultimate move in Go. Apparently this is an extremely rare event, but I cannot talk to it much since my knowledge of Go is very limited. Sai meets up with various people over the years that he is able to play through, but when he meets up with Hikaru, Sai discovers that Hikaru doesn't care about playing Go & finds Sai's presence an annoyance. It only takes a few episodes to determine that Sai finding Hikaru was more than just dumb luck, it was fate since Hikaru would find a talent for playing Go & would soon come to love it as much as Sai.

Hikaru immediately finds a nemesis, even though he doesn't know it at first, when he goes to a Go parlor & meets a child prodigy who possesses great skill in playing Go names Akira. Hikaru tells Akira he had never played Go before, but Akira has no idea that Sai is guiding Hikaru. Hikaru beats Akira & while the entire Go salon is astonished that Akira could be beaten, Akira is even more shocked & becomes obsessed with finding Hikaru & beating him.

Hikaru no Go is a great series with interesting characters who obtain some great dimension throughout the series. Additional supporting characters are added, but the way you can feel the emotions of the characters is what compelled me to keep watching -- well, that and the music. I'm an anime music junky, but that is a post for another time...

Anyway, I went ahead & presented the previews, much as they are on the blog. If you want to watch more you can either rent/buy the DVDs or go over to the toonami.com website & view the streaming episodes on Jetstream.

'til later...

Ilan wins Top Chef?

Did Food & Wine magazine spill it?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16894186/

According to MSNBC, apparently Food & Wine had a profile of Ilan on their website. In addition, Ilan's myspace.com page talked about his windfall & quitting his restaurant.

Here's the question - will I still watch Top Chef?

Heck Yeah!

I suggest you do too! The drama will be great!

Top Chef - Pre-finale show

Don't know if it is the bad chocolate milk I drank this morning or the 2nd to last episode of Top Chef that has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I watched my DVR'd episode this morning before coming into work. I'm not a big Marcel fan, simply because he is way too cocky, but he was definitely more mature than the other contestants when the sore losers started to complain about him "cheating". You know, nothing screams sore loser bigger than trying to make other people's fault bigger than your own.

Ilia didn't follow the instructions. What was calling Marcel out going to do? Were the judges going to say, "Oh, ok. If you say so Ilia. Marcel's cooking now officially sucks, while yours was better since you didn't cheat." I honestly feel like she was pressured to say it by Sam & Ilan, but ultimately, it was her that spoke up. Her pot coming off of the burner would not change the way her dishes didn't taste Hawaiian.

Ultimately, Ilan & Marcel go to the finale. I'm cheering for Ilan because I like his personality better, but if Marcel pulls out all of the stops like he did in this last episode, he may win. The finale will be really interesting, especially if they bring back eliminated chefs, like they did last season.

Top Chef - Must watch show!

Heroes Summary DVD - Disappointing

If you plan to rent the Heroes Season Summary DVD from Netflix...don't.

Netflix says it is 1 hour long. It's not. It gives a brief synopsis of each character, while leaving out a few.

It was something nice to check out if there were nothing else to watch on TV, but if you have to rent it...not worth it. Check out the streaming eps from NBC.com.

DVR let me down...again!! T.T

OK. I haven't figured out why my DVR won't record Nip/Tuck, even though I have it on a Season Pass as well as it being #1 in my priority queue...but that's OK. Nip/Tuck is on FX, which means they will air the show again sometime again during the week. However, my DVR has now officially ticked me off!

I started watching Heroes a few weeks ago. You would know the series would take a LONG hiatus before showing new episodes. So I'm trying to catch up on the nbc.com website, which thankfully is sharing the first 11 eps. So I was very excited knowing that a new episode would be on this week. I don't have time to watch TV on Monday, so I was looking forward to watching it Tuesday, my day off. Couldn't watch it Tuesday morning because I had a sick child at home who begged to watch SpongeBob. I had OT scheduled at work for the afternoon/evening, so I knew I would need to catch the episode that night before I returned to work on Wednesday & the people I work with ruin it for me. Well, checked the DVR last night & NO HEROES!!!!!!

OK, something is going to have to done about this. I'm not looking too forward to catching this ep on the net. I have the season summary DVD listed on Netflix being sent to me. Hopefully that will hold me over until I get the chance to go on the internet.

Holy Smoke! Too long for new blog...

Why is it I never think to do this blog until I'm at work & my brain is so fried I can't work any longer. I'll be leaving soon, so hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things when I get home.

I've been sick for the past 4 weeks -- hopefully I've learned my lesson about avoiding the doctor. I ended up with bruised ribs & a pulled muscle from coughing so much. It's been interesting trying to sit at a desk all day....oh well.

OK -- time to go home, but at least I have another blog entry...as pathetic as it is. Ciao!
